All Baptisms at Immaculate Conception Pro-Cathedral are performed in the Ancient Latin Rite of the Church. Call the office for all inquiries.

Confirmation

As of 2014, the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered every two years at Immaculate Conception and according to the Traditional Roman Rite of the Church. Two years of classes and preparations are the norm as well as the registration fee.

First Holy Communion

Initial classes of preparation for First Holy Communion of children are scheduled in the beginning of the year and final classes and assessments are made several months later. Much of the specific preparation happens at home, however. Immaculate Conception uses the New St. Jospeh 1st Holy Communion Catechism to prepare grade-school age candidates.

Sacrament of Penance (Confession)

Confession is offered 1/2 hour before all Masses Monday-Saturday and at 11:30 am Monday-Friday. No Confessions heard on Sunday.

It is good to come prepared having completed an examination of conscience, but the priest will help you if needed.

Guide to Holy Confession

Beginning

Do: Go in. Close the door. Kneel down. Make the Sign of the Cross +.

Say: Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been [time] since my last confession, and these are my sins: [list your sins in kind and number]. For these and all the sins of my past life, I am heartfully sorry.

(Father listens and then offers advice and assigns a penance and asks you to say the Act of Contrition)

Absolution

Say Act of contrition: O My God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee. And I detest for all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and pains of hell; but most of all, because I offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

Priest: Dominus Noster Jesus Christus te absolvat . . . Deinde ego te absolvo a peccatis tuis in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

Do: The sign of the cross while the priests absolves you.

Dismissal

Priest: May the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the merits of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and of all the saints, whatever good you do and evil you endure, be unto you for the remission of sin, the increase of grace, and the reward of eternal life. Amen.

Priest: Go in peace, your sins are forgiven.

Say: Thanks be to God.

Get up to leave and to perform your penance.

 

An Examination of Conscience for Children:

 

Responsibilities to God

• • Have I prayed every day?

• • Have I prayed my morning prayers and night prayers?

• • Have I prayed with my parents and family?

• • Have I been moody and rebellious about praying and going to church on Sunday?

• • Have I asked the Holy Spirit to help me whenever I have been tempted to sin?

• • Have I asked the Holy Spirit to help me do what is right?

 

Responsibilities to others

• • Have I been obedient and respectful to my parents?

• • Have I lied or been deceitful to them or to others?

• • Have I been arrogant, stubborn or rebellious?

• • Have I talked back to parents, teachers or other adults?

• • Have I pouted and been moody?

• • Have I been selfish toward my parents, brothers, and sisters,

• • teachers, or my friends and schoolmates?

• • Have I gotten angry at them? Have I hit anyone?

• • Have I held grudges or not forgiven others?

• • Have I treated other children with respect or have I made fun of them and called them names?

• • Have I used bad language?

• • Have I stolen anything? Have I returned it?

• • Have I performed my responsibilities, such as homework and household chores?

• • Have I been helpful and affectionate toward my family?

• • Have I been kind and generous with my friends?

Sacrament of Anointing (Extreme Unction)

This sacrament is for those Catholics who are seriously ill and/or in danger of death. If this sacrament is requested, it is best that it is done before immediate urgency so that there is a greater possibility to schedule a priest. Emergency cases are also accepted.

Reminder: One’s parish priest has the privilege and responsibility to care for his parishioners. The laity of Immaculate Conception have the right to expect spiritual care from their priests. Parishioners of other parishes should expect the same of their own pastor/priests and should seek this sacrament from them first.

Sacrament of Marriage

All Weddings at Immaculate Conception are performed in the Traditional Roman Rite.

If you would like to be married at Immaculate Conception, be sure to speak with the pastor BEFORE determining a specific dates or reserving receptions halls etc. According to the norms of wedding preparation in the United States, no wedding will be scheduled before 6 months of beginning preparation for the sacrament. Preparation includes, classes with the priest, spiritual preparations in prayer and a deepening of the spiritual life, as well as a FOCCUS assessment.
